Message in a Bottle

Message in a Bottle – when time is saved, lives are saved.

Do you know of the free Message in a Bottle scheme, promoted by the local Lions group?
The Lions Message in a Bottle is a simple idea that encourages people to keep their basic personal and medical details in a common place where they can easily be found in an emergency.
How does it work?
The information is kept in a small plastic bottle which is then stored in your fridge, where the emergency services would expect to find it in the event of being called to your home. They will know you have a bottle by two labels. One is fixed on the inside of the front door or the main entrance to your home, and the other to the door of your fridge.
To obtain a bottle, ask at Hodnet Medical Centre or phone Hodnet Compassionate Communities: 07849 835687
If there is more than one person in the household, a separate form should be used for each individual. Please ask for an additional form if you need one.
(Note: users of Medic Alert products should continue to wear these as normal. The Message in a Bottle is not intended to replace these items.)

Public Walks for 2018

Hodnet Footpath Group have set dates for next year’s public walks.
As weekend walks have often had a poor turnout in the past but evening walks have often been better, we have opted for evening walks through the coming year, and will also try some daytime mid-week walks too.
Noting that we seem to have a knack for choosing some of the wettest days of the year for our walks – and then having to cancel them, this coming year we are going to try and cheat fate by having a reserve date [shown in brackets below]. So, if the weather renders the first date impossible we will try again at the same time on the reserve date.
Anyone is welcome to join us on these walks, so feel free to make a note on your coming year’s calenders/diaries.
Full details will be posted on the website nearer the time.

Thefts of and from Land Rovers

Neighbourhood WatchWest Mercia Police yesterday (15/11/17) posted a Neighbourhood Watch Message here on their website. It lists a spate of thefts across the county of thefts of Land Rovers or of particular parts from them.
These vehicles are vital in any rural community like ours, so it is well worth local residents being aware that Land Rovers are particularly at risk from thieves. The nearest theft to the Hodnet area was of a complete vehicle from the Shawbury area yesterday. Here is the complete list:

  • 7 Sep. Cressage Vehicle
  • Land Rover in Hodnet14 Sep. Welshampton Vehicle
  • 21 Sep. Cruckton Vehicle
  • 28 Sep. Ashford Bowdler Vehicle
  • 4 Oct. Acton Burnell Attempted Theft
  • 12 Oct. Stanton Long Bonnet
  • 19 Oct. Ludlow Bonnet
  • 31 Oct. Broseley Attempted Theft
  • 2 Nov. Bridgnorth Bonnet
  • 11 Nov. Annscroft Shrewsbury Headlights
  • 13 Nov. Much Wenlock Bonnet
  • 15 Nov. Shawbury Vehicle

During these three months, 3 thefts of/from Land Rovers were also recorded by Telford Police and 2 by Herefordshire Police. Vehicle number plates are also targeted frequently by thieves.

WMP ask for owners help to deter thieves and to make it easier to identify stolen vehicles by putting security marks (forensic liquid) on external accessories.
