Hodnet's New Post Office

Alex Medhurst moved to Hodnet in August 2015 to take over management of the village shop, following an interesting career in venue and museum management. Along with his wife Jackie, previously the principal of a school, he has settled happily into village life and is particularly pleased to report that the transfer of Post Office services from Station Road to Church Street went ahead smoothly and according to plan.

Pictured below the new sign on the day the Post Office business was transferred, Alex speaks of an exciting opportunity ahead for them both as the new setting introduces them to regular users of both shop and Post Office. He is delighted that it has been possible to retain a Post Office in Hodnet, with extended opening hours as a bonus. Already he is meeting regular customers and enjoying that unique combination of providing a service and being in a hub of community life which such a location affords.
Installing Post Office facilities whilst maintaining the character of a village shop is a big challenge, but one which Alex and Jackie appear to have met admirably. The shop remained open throughout the renovation period, and the installation of compact shelving units and a larger state of the art fridge means that customers should be able to access the same range of products if not more.

Alex hopes to be able to enlarge the present staff team with further part-time workers in due course. The shop is open every day except for Christmas Day. Having recently acquired a black and white cat to enhance his new role (though he did not say if they had named it Jess!), all that remains is to thank both Gina and Kath (pictured right) for many years of faithful Post Office service and wish Alex and Jackie well in their new role.
