Parish Plan 2015 – Survey available soon

HodnetParishPlan2015LogoMedium
Some time next week (1 to 6 June) local residents should receive a printed copy of the Community Led Plan, Household Survey through the post. The survey, which will also be available on-line on this website, has been put together by a focus group which was formed after a public meeting in September last year. Further details are available here.
Running alongside the main survey is a second one with questions relevant to young people aged between 7 and 17. This survey will only be available in an on-line format.
It is important that as many people as possible participate in these surveys and the focus group would appreciate your help in publicising them. If you are involved in a local group which has its own noticeboard, or you have a window which other people walk past, we would encourage you to download and print one of the following posters and put it on display. The brightly coloured poster is intended for use in places which cater specifically for young people. (Click on an image to download the poster.)

Item stolen from shed in Peplow

A Neighbourhood Watch Update circulated today (26 May, 2015) reports a theft from a shed in a rear garden of a house in Peplow. The theft occurred between 8.00pm on Wednesday 20 May and 4.00pm on Thursday 21 May. The home owner returned home to find that the shed had been forced open and an orange coloured hedge cutter had been stolen, valued at about £140. The offender(s) activated an alarm on the shed when they forced entry.
If anyone saw or heard anything suspicious or has any information concerning this offence, they bare asked to contact West Mercia Police by dialling 101 and quoting incident reference number 0690S 210515.

Car turns over on A442

CautionSignThe A442 in Peplow was closed this morning (20 May 3015) for around two hours after a car ended up on its roof.
The incident occurred about 10:30am bringing traffic to a standstill. According to BBC Radio Shropshire the woman driver, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, did not suffer any major injuries. It is not known in which direction the car was travelling when the incident occurred.
Local residents reported that several fire appliances attended the scene along with the Air Ambulance. This is confirmed by reports in the Shropshire Star, on the Fire Service website and Market Drayton Police Twitter feed. The Hodnet Fire crew were supported by appliances from Market Drayton and Wellington.
The accident happened about one-third of a mile south of Peplow crossroads, just north of Shuker’s Lane in the middle of a series of slight bends (map). “Caution diesel spillage” signs have been placed on the approaches to the location. This reporter comments that the residue seems to be quite thick and encourages drivers to take extra care in this area over the next few days, especially when the road surface is wet.

Cardiac Arrest?

Derek Hodge, Chairman of Hodnet Parish Council, writes:
The Hodnet defibrillator, positioned at the Fire Station, has been “live” for some weeks now with our team of trained first responders in place.

Remember that in the event of a suspected cardiac arrest that you dial 999 as usual and tell the West Midlands Ambulance Service that the person concerned may have had a heart attack. WMAS will despatch an ambulance/paramedic as usual. WMAS will also recognise that there is a Public Access AED situated in Hodnet and will contact our on-call volunteers for an immediate response. The volunteers will use the security code to access the AED (Automated External Defibrillator), take it to the patient and render assistance until the ambulance crew arrive.

Note: For every minute a patient is delayed in receiving defibrillation, their chances of survival drop by 10%!
In our local area, as well as the additional defibrillator on the Fire Appliance, there are defibrillators at the Hodnet Medical Practice (daytime opening hours) (01630 685230) and at Beech House Nursing Home in Wollerton (01630 685813) where there are AED trained staff as well. These may be an additional option if the incident is immediately adjacent to these locations but whenever you suspect someone has had a cardiac arrest, you should always dial 999 immediately and the system will respond as described above.
More details can be found here: Hodnet Community Defibrillator.

Hodnet Footpath Group walk voted a success

Hodnet Footpath Group Walk
A dozen or more people and several dogs enjoyed a lovely walk on Bank Holiday Monday following the routes of walks 2 and 3 in the Hodnet Footpath Group series of leaflets. After wet, cold or windy weather during the preceding few days, we were blessed with a dry and sunny morning and thoroughly enjoyed the views and the company! Look out for website announcements of future Footpaths Group walks, or email our Secretary to be added to our “Friends” list and receive email notification of events.
