Formal Notice of Closure of Ellerdine Branch Surgery

Hodnet Medical Centre’s website carried the following announcement on 18th July regarding the formal closure of the branch surgery at Ellerdine:

Dear Patient/Householder,
HODNET MEDICAL PRACTICE REQUEST FORMAL CLOSURE OF ELLERDINE BRANCH SURGERY
The practice formally applied to NHS England to close the Ellerdine surgery with effect from 31st May 2016. The branch surgery has not actually functioned since March 2008, and remains closed.
To date, we have not been in a position to resume our previous service, but have continued to maintain a weekly drug delivery and repeat medication slip collection service.
Since the branch surgery closed in March 2008, the increasing pressures of general practice, and current problems recruiting and retaining doctors , have resulted in our resources now stretched to a point where we feel unable to resume the previous level of service.
We can offer better capacity at Hodnet, with a larger physical presence, more consulting rooms and good clinical supervision, support and dispensing facilities.
We have followed the procedure required to present and support our application. This has involved consultation with the Patient Participation Group, Parish Councillors, Ellerdine Village Hall Committee, representatives from both NHS England and Shropshire Clinical Commissioning Group.
Shropshire Commissioning Group has now informed us that they support our application, and the formal closure has taken immediate effect.
Delivery of repeat medication, and collection of repeat request slips will cease with the final date being Thursday 18th October 2018, and from this date it will be necessary to collect your medication from Hodnet. Medical Centre. Similarly, your repeat prescription slips will need to be delivered to Hodnet, unless ordered on line. Please ask at reception if you would like to register to order your repeat medication on line.

Car Vandalised at Roundabout

Local residents may have noticed over the weekend a Ford Focus, with a collapsed offside front wheel, left on the verge at the A53/A442 roundabout. On Saturday 14 July the only visible damage was the wheel, by the following afternoon however the rear window and the front passenger window side window had been smashed (see image).
The damage has been reported to the police and hopefully the unfortunate owner has been made aware. It can only be a matter of speculation, but the most probable cause of the damage is that one or more opportunists, having spotted the vehicle, decided to force entry and examine the boot and glove-box to see if any valuables had been left in the vehicle.
If you have any information about when the damage to the windows occurred, or about the culprits, we encourage you to contact West Mercia Police by calling 101 or CrimeStoppers on-line or by phone, 0800 555 111.
Remember this incident if you are ever unfortunate enough to have to leave an immobile vehicle in a remote place. Make sure that you take all valuables with you, and consider leaving a note in a prominent place making that clear!

Grass and Hedgerow Fires in High Hatton

Shropshire Fire and Rescue ServiceWe are all aware of the dangers of fires in this dry and hot weather. Yesterday, Sunday 15 July, Shropshire Fire and Rescue were called to a grass fire in Green Lane, High Hatton. Their incident report states that they were called to the incident at 12:48pm. Four fire appliances were mobilised from Hodnet, Market Drayton and Wellington.
On arrival they found two large fires in the open. Both fires involved large areas of grass and hedgerow. Hose reel jets and beaters were used to extinguish the fires. The firefighters were assisted by the farmer who used machinery to created a fire break in the field.
Afterwards Hodnet Fire Station posted two pictures on their Facebook page, and the Market Drayton crew put other images on their Twitter Feed.
Update 17/7/18: In a second similar, but smaller incident the Hodnet Fire Crew returned to Green Lane today at 1:50pm.The fire involving a small area of hedgerow measuring 2 square metres, and one hose reel jet was used to extinguish it. The incident was declared over by 2:15pm.
Afterwards the crew used their Facebook page to thank the member of public who phone spotted it and called SFRS control.
