22 Weeks of Roadworks in Wollerton

Starting on Monday 29th October 2018 Severn Trent Water [STW] will commence the first of two phases of work to replace the water main on Mill Road and Drayton Road in Wollerton. The two phases are planned to take 13 weeks for the first and 9 weeks for the second. At times sections of both roads will be completely closed, If the work is not delayed there will also be four-way temporary traffic lights at the Wood Lane/Mill Road junction for 2 weeks from 7 January 2019.
Wollerton Road Closure Map Oct 2018 to March 2019Information about both phases of the work can be found on the STW website and also on Roadworks.org from which this annotated screen-shot is taken.
Updates will be posted on the STW website during the work for Phase One Mill Road, and Phase Two Lostford. The general description on both pages reads:
“We plan to start the water main renewals from 29 October 2018, starting by Wollerton Hall Gardens, working in sections towards Mill Road, then onto the main road in the direction of Lostford. We expect to complete the work by March 2019. This can change depending progress.”

Update 6 Nov. This morning the above statement was still on STW website, the webteam however have today been informed that by the time of the public meeting in early October, it had been decided to start the work in Phase One by the crossroads with Drayton Road and work towards the Old Hall. The few people who attended that event were apparently told that this was the case.

There is some confusion in the description of the location of the road closure in Phase One being used by STW, as they describe it as being between Mill Road Junction and Cotton Farm Junction. (For example see this entry on Roadworks.org.) Cotton Farm is located on the Stoke-on-Tern side of the A53 bypass even though it is in Hodnet. The junction near it is no longer connected directly to Mill Road in Wollerton. Before the construction of the bypass, Mill Road and Station Road did meet by the gates to Cotton Farm. It seems STW need to update their maps and associated data set for this area. The the section of Mill Road which will be closed on occasions during the first phase will be on the Wollerton side of the A53, and not the Stoke-on-Tern side.

Hodnet Housing Development – Planning Permission Given

Image of updated plansBetween June 2012 and September 2013, this website carried a series of reports on a planning application for 44 dwellings to the east of Shrewsbury Street, Hodnet which involved land between Abbots Way and Station Road. The proposals were initially rejected and an appeal made to the Secretary of State which seemed to have gone missing over time. That was until yesterday, 26th October, when Shropshire Council approved the application.
Following an “Amended Officer Report” published 11 October, the Council has now published its decision approving the application. Both pages can be accessed via the application’s documents page on the Planning Portal website. Under standard planning conditions the approval provides a three year period for the work on the site to begin before it expires.

Inquisitive New Visitor

Feline VisitorWendy has been in touch with the webteam to see if anyone can identify this feline visitor who has been frequenting her garden near The Bear in Hodnet.
The cat seems to know when it’s on to a good thing as it stays around for most of the day and “loves cuddles”. Wendy says, “She has a little tip off the top of her ear – like it has been sliced off.”
Wendy is concerned that she is a stray and is wondering if she should take her to the vets.
If you are the cat’s owner, or know who is, please contact Wendy to put her mind at rest. You can do so by calling her on 07764-661787 or by email.

BBC2 – Love in The Countryside

Love in the Countryside FlyerThe Parish Clerk has been contacted by a producer at Boundless Productions, who are making a second series of the BBC Two show Love in The Countryside.
They are searching for rural singles who are looking for love but find it difficult to meet potential partners.
The first series was presented by Sara Cox, and is described on their website as:
“A six part series following a group of men and women who are struggling to find a partner with whom to share their rural lives. A reliance on the land for their livelihoods, and being based within small rural communities, has limited their chance of finding someone to love.”

Anyone wanting to know more should contact Boundless Productions by email.

Further details are available on the BBC’s website including several clips from the previous series.

Here is the trailer for original series.
