** In calculating the notice period, day one is the day following the date of this notice; a Saturday, Sunday, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Good Friday or a Bank Holiday or day appointed for public thanksgiving or mourning shall be disregarded, and the period closes at midnight on the fourteenth day after the date of this notice. Accident Closes A442 in Peplow – 9 Sep. 2019

Shortly before 10am on Monday 9 Sept. a fairground trailer became detached from the vehicle that was towing it and hit a small BT van which was travelling towards Hodnet.

The incident occurred near Highway Farm and the road was closed for over two hours by the police.

The two occupants of the van were taken to hospital by ambulance.

All Change for this Website

In the next few weeks the first major update of the Hodnet Parish website in its ten year history is to take place. A major reason for this is to make the site more accessible to those using smaller screens on smart phones and tablets.

It may take a few days for the update to be fully implemented, so we ask visitors to be patient whilst the update is being completed.

New team members still needed

As previously highlighted, Randall Hardy, who has managed the site for a decade has decided that the time has come for him to pass on responsibility for it. The new format for the site is being designed by a respondent to the above item, who will be managing the technical aspects in the future.

The Parish Council is however still looking for a new editor along with anyone else who is motivated to help to manage the content.

You can find out more about this opportunity on the recently updated home page.

Concert of Early English Music

St Luke’s Church, Sunday 15 September, 3.00pm

A short concert of early English music in St Luke’s Church performed by Jacobi Chorale. This will feature Mass of the Western Wind by John Taverner and instrumental interludes. The Mass is one of John Taverner’s best known works and is based on a tune that goes back to a secular poem from medieval times “Westron Wynde”. Entry to the concert is free, however donations will be gratefully received and will be shared with the Church. Please join us afterwards for refreshments and an opportunity to speak with the singers and instrumentalists.

Jacobi Chorale, an early music choir was founded in 2007 under the direction of Dr Paul Nevins. Performing across the Midlands their focus is mainly on music from the Renaissance and Baroque periods. Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610 and Bach’s St John Passion are two of the large scale works they have performed. Shorter, afternoon concerts are increasingly popular and have featured works by some less well-known composers as well as the more familiar including Gabrieli, de Rore, Tallis, Byrd, Purcell and Vivaldi.

A Ramble and Real Ale in Hodnet

On Saturday 21st September, Hodnet Footpath Group has arranged an afternoon walk from The Bear Inn, Hodnet, up to Marchamley and then back via Long Lane and a field path to Hodnet running past the Hearn.

We’ll meet outside The Bear at 2pm for this walk, which is about 3 miles in length along easy to moderate terrain – with a few stiles having dog gates en-route.

All are welcome, including dogs on leads.

By chance this date coincides with the recently announced last day of trading of The Bear, so we will call in at the end of the walk for a sociable ‘snifter’ – and to toast the future fortunes of Greg and Pia, who have run things well in their time at the helm.
