Police Accident SignThe A442 through our Civil Parish seems to attract a larger number of accidents than any other road in the area. Today the Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service and the Shropshire Star both carry reports of another collision with a tree.
According to the Star, Jamie Arrowsmith, spokesman for West Midland Ambulance Service, said: “We were called at 9.08 am to the junction of the A442 and A53 in Hodnet to reports of a collision between a car and a tree. We sent one ambulance to the scene. There was also an off-duty paramedic in attendance. We treated a woman in her 50s, who was the driver of the car, for back pain and an injury to her face. She was immobilised with the use of a scoop stretcher and taken to Princess Royal Hospital.”

The accident seems to have taken place to the south of Espley Roundabout, as there are not trees close to the junction. The road was closed for a period of time while emergency services worked at the scene and to allow for recovery of the vehicles. A Tweet by reads, “Hodnet, @SFRSWellington & at RTC on A442 at Peplow 2 vehicles, no persons trapped, please avoid the area

SFRS state that 4 fire appliances including the Rescue Tender were mobilised from Hodnet, Market Drayton and Wellington and an Operations Officer attended a road traffic collision. They state that it involved two vehicles, and do not mention a tree! The Star’s report includes a statement from a spokesman for Market Drayton Fire Station who said, “Crews made the vehicles safe, and provided assistance to paramedics and police who were also on scene.”
It is only 22 days since the last collision involving a vehicle hitting a tree on this road. Today’s was the third in the first three months of this year. Over the years we have now reported on 12 accidents on this road, two of them involving fatalities. Here is a list of the others:
