Parish Council Community Grants – Update April 2018

In his Annual Report, Chris Mackie, Chairman of Hodnet Parish Council, advised the Annual Parish Meeting that ‘one of our prime objectives over the last 12 months had been developing and then implementing the process of distributing community grants’.

The availability of funds was publicised locally last year on this website and elsewhere, and grant application forms were provided to interested parties so that they could submit their requests. After careful consideration, offers totalling £ 34,004 were made to seven different groups and organisations in the parish of Hodnet.

The Council is delighted that some of these grants have already been put to good use, and to note in particular the improved car parking facilities at Wollerton Bowls Club and at Peplow Chapel. At Marchamley Club meanwhile there has been considerable fund-raising activity in order to refurbish their facilities.

Wollerton Bowls Club Chairman Randall Hardy says, “Club members very much value the support of the Parish Council in contributing to the upgrade of our parking area. The project was not simply about providing hard standing for vehicles, but also improving the drainage across the whole area. As the Club’s premises are used for other purposes too, we are confident that people from the wider community will appreciate the dryer access.”

In the coming year the Parish Council will be giving further consideration as to how they can disperse any remaining funds.

Parish Council Chairman Chris Mackie and Councillor Karen Calder meet Wollerton Club Chairman Randall Hardy and Secretary Gordon Smith on the new car park. Looking on are Club members Basil Hewitt, Michael Morgan, Ian Mays, David and Monica Weller.
