A53 Closed by HGV Fire

Just after 2pm today (Mon 7th April, 2014) and lorry carrying stone caught fire about 100m from Tern Hill roundabout. The vehicle, which had been travelling towards Market Drayton on the A53, was stopped by its driver outside Ternhill Furniture. Fire crews from Hodnet and Market Drayton attended the scene along with police. The A53 was closed until shortly before 7.00pm between the A41 and Lostford Lane (the old A53 route through Wollerton and Hodnet).
The fire is thought to have started in the vehicles engine compartment and was extinguished by fire crews wearing breathing apparatus.
