Wollerton Old Hall Garden

The Yew walk: by Clive Nichols.

The gardens at Wollerton comprise a series of rooms, each designed along a different theme in the English garden tradition and each with their own distinctive atmosphere. The 16th century grade II listed manor house (not open to the public) forms the focus for the gardens. Wollerton is highly regarded by both garden designers and garden critics.

The garden covers approximately 3 acres and, in its present form, dates back to 1984, when John and Lesley Jenkins began the new layout and planting on the site of an older garden.

The garden is full of design ideas, many of which can be transferred to a small garden. The plant lover will not be disappointed and will find much to be enthusiastic about, the style of planting is best described as controlled exuberance.  The range of plants is very wide with good collections of clematis, salvias, phlox and roses. Many of the plants found in the garden can be bought in the plant sales area.

For information on open days, entry charges and location as well as a virtual tour of the garden and lots more besides, visit the garden’s website.
